Soon I'll update the pics of Greg and me and add some fun junk. Meanwhile, if you're a Beatles fan and you haven't seen Greg's TWO trips to Abbey Road Studios, once in 1972 and once in 2005, just scroll down and enjoy.

SPECIAL PHOTO TREAT: Doug and Greg Bell trespass into EMI studios on Abbey Road during a London family trip circa 1972.
It's 1972, and young Greg is crossing the famed crossing, elephant bells a-flappin'...   The wide-open, tempting front door of EMI Studios (now Abbey Road Studios), where nearly all Beatle recordings were made...   They are inside and snapping photos! Wow, can the signage really have been this crummy back then?   They make it to the door of EMI Studio 3, still taking snaps ... what a funky door. But Doug and Greg are soon busted and asked to leave!   Undeterred, our heroes
console themselves by
photo-ing the back
entrance to Apple,
which at the time
sported a John Lennon
signature and Japanese
graffiti by Yoko Ono.

RETURN TO ABBEY ROAD: Greg, Erin and Larry get an insider's tour of what is now Abbey Road Studios, October 2005.
The more things change...
Great shot of the crossing from a crosser's-eye view. Studio complex is to the right.
Same facade, new name. Maybe the cars aren't as cool as 33 years ago (see above). What's cool is -- this time we're expected!   Greg prepares to stroll on in. The new logo is quite good. The whole complex is updated, yet the tracking rooms are mostly unchanged so as to preserve their signature sound.   Studio 1 -- The orchestral tracks for Beatles songs were recorded here. Recent projects: scores for Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, and Spring on the Planet Ming.   Studio 2 -- birthplace of most of the Beatles' recordings. Fans should recognize those wall treatments. Greg snaps Erin and Larry chatting with the studio manager.

Studio 2 -- shot showing the famous staircase up to the original control room. Probably helped keep the four moptops in tip-top ninja condition.   Studio 3 -- Control Room. "Tomorrow Never Knows" was recorded in 3. The "funky door" in 1972 barred entry to this studio, but now here's Greg, seated at the Studio 3 desk.   Studio 3 -- full view of the desk. It's an SSL make -- Greg told me the model but I didn't write it down. The plexiglass device at the right is for serving drinks and can be made to slide down the desk.   Original EMI TG solid-state recording desk from the late 60's. Presumably still used on occasion for its sound. The Beatles' "Abbey Road" album was recorded on this model of desk, though not this exact specimen.   Drum iso booth, Studio 2. I'd be remiss in omitting a shot of Ringo world! The studio manager politely declined to say who was tracking in Studio 2 at this time.
